Visual identity for projects and proposals

Client: European Commission DG ENER / Joanneum Research (RESPED project)
Projects: Citizen-led Renovation (2023) / RESPED (2026)

Two very different projects. One thing in common: the visual identity had to work hard across a lot of formats and audiences.

The Challenge

Citizen-led renovation: working within institutional constraints

The brief was a flagship EU initiative empowering communities to lead energy renovations across four pilot countries. Strict European Commission guidelines. A multilingual, international team. Four different national contexts. I delivered the full brand system: logo, colour palette, PowerPoint templates, factsheet layouts, newsletter design, website assets, social media visuals, and roll-ups. Every asset was adapted to the needs of each pilot country while staying fully compliant with EC communication standards. Visuals were built with diverse representation across all materials.

RESPED: building an identity from scratch

When there is more freedom, I build the whole visual world. Joanneum Research asked me for a full visual identity system for RESPED, their project under the EU-funded Driving Urban Transitions (DUT) partnership. RESPED develops new, energy-flexible and affordable Positive Energy District concepts, aiming to improve energy resilience and mitigate energy poverty in cities.

My idea was to show a neighbourhood of renewable energy prosumers connected to a neighbourhood of energy consumers only, the connection running through an underground heat pump system. I also really wanted to avoid making yet another EU-blue logo, or a green one for that matter. I settled on a fresh colour combination that works well both online and in print: purple and light blue.

For RESPED I designed a logo, colour system, icons, flyer and a poster, a roll-up, presentation slides, a short project film, reporting templates, and website structure and imagery.

The Impact

Two projects, two briefs, two very different constraints. Both delivered on time, within their respective institutional and creative requirements, ready to use across print, digital, and social.
